Standard Updates

15-04-26

LinkedIn Post - Attention all, ISO 14001: 2026 has been published! In the coming months we expect that ISO 9001: 2026 will also be published, followed by ISO 45001. This means that the transition period will begin, where the key elements of any change will need to be identified and implemented within your management system before the expiry date - the transition audit may be done as a standalone audit or tied in with your next surveillance or recertification audit.

All URS certified clients shall be contacted in due course by the relevant office on the next steps for transition. Before this can happen, URS will also be undertaking a transition to assure UKAS that we can audit to the new standards. We will keep you updated on this progress.

With all of the above, we are also expecting that the Aerospace and Automotive industries will publish updated standards of their own. Further updates will be given once announcements have been made.

With the recent change in ISO 14001, the transition period has begun. Notification from UKAS has been published with the following timescales allotted for ISO 14001 clients:
- Late 2026, early 2027 - UKAS to provide confirmation to URS that the new standard can be certified
- 31 October 2027 - URS to stop all new certifications to the previous version of the standard
- 30 April 2029 - URS to transition all certified customers to the revised standard

The transition to the new standard will not take place until UKAS have confirmed that URS are able to certify to the 2026 version. Once this confirmation has been provided, another notification will be given on the next steps to be taken. It is envisioned that an additional 0.5 days will be needed during surveillance or OV1 to check the implementation of the requirements.

For the transition audit to be successful, it is recommended that a GAP analysis is completed on your system to ensure you meet the new requirements and have implemented any identified changes.

Should you have any queries for this transition, please feel free to contact URS.
